The horror genre is all about the scare. The rush of knowing of and waiting for the inevitable boogey man to jump out, and flying out of your seat when it finally does is what draws the audience. The horror audience tends to be the younger generations, feeding the desire for a rush.

Horror movies generally use the antagonist to incite terror. From vampires to snakes, horror films feed the viewer things that make a person's heart jump or their skin crawl. The simple scares tend to work the best because all can relate.
