025-The Fleet At Rest

The Fleet At Rest: This fleet resides in Gig Harbor bay and is what's left of the fishing fleet in this area that prevailed in the early years of our small town. The harbor has a very small channel from the ocean that acts as entry way into this harbor. It is said that Gig Harbor got it's name from the Wilkes Expidition of 1841. Several gigs were sent out to explore the coastlines of Puget Sound. During a storm, one of these gigs found our little inlet and sought refuge from the heavy winds and rain. Scandinavians and Slovonians were the first people to live here. The two main trades were of course farming and fishing. This is my downtown, about 3 miles from our home.
