CRITIQUE #3
HP PHOTOSMART ESSENTIAL (2.0)

Product Description
HP Photosmart Essential is a software product by HP to organise, edit, print, create and share photos.

Visibility:
Here is a snapshot of the screen that appears when you click to open HP Photosmart Essential:

The user might think of this as a welcome screen and might look for a Next or Skip button so that he can start using the photosmart features to upload, share and edit pictures etc.
This is notion is enforced even more with the window title which reads `Welcome to HP Photosmart Essentials`.
However, the tool features are on this same page and have hyperlinks to on each picture icon to continue to that particular feature.
Mappings and Consistency and Standards:
-The print button on the welcome window as seen in the picture pasted above does not provide the real world usage of print. In everyday use of print button, the user first has the documentéphoto to be printed available with him and then hits the print button. However in this product, the user has to click on the print button and then pullup the photo or album which he wishes to print which doesnot really make any sense.
-Same is the case with the share button. A user would prefer to look at the photo or album first and decide whether to share it or not and then would like to click on the share button instead of going the other way round.

Recognition rather than recall:
As the mappings are very poor and there is no consistency or standards when compared with real world scenarios, the user has no choice but recall the functions and has nothing to recognise with.

Feedback:
There is no feedback mechanism which the user can take into account.
