Sunset Beach

latest updates

Finally getting time to work on this site. Just added some more content and fleshed out the About section. It's sad, but I'm still adding everything as separate html pages, even though I added some backend templating scripts awhile back. Maybe I'll get to that next, not that it matters on this end.

past updates

The progress continues. The portfolio section is growing, with a nearly functional sidebar (complete with some nice javascript slide effects), as well as some actual content. The backend organization is still a major stumbling block, however. I'm not sure how I want to approach actually storing and presenting all of the content. Separate html pages would be a mess, even with PHP includes, while a database-driven system requires a significant amount of scripting. If I do go the way of the database, which will happen eventually, I have contemplated using AJAX principles to dynamically load content and make the portfolio much more fluid. Adding tags and an instant search tool are not out of the question either.

Wow! This turned out better than I had hoped. The front page here is nearly complete, I just have some work on the sidebar left to do, and I haven't even had to use sIFR yet. Eventually I'll get to laying out the other content pages, particularly the portfolio, since that's what this site is all about. Right now I've got to figure out what categories of content I'm going to present. At this point, I'm thinking Code and Design, with subcategories including C#/XNA, Animation, Digital Composition, Photography, Web Design, and so forth.

I hope you like the main image, too. I rendered it using Terragen and then added a few effects using Photoshop. Not too difficult, but it sure is pretty.
