Information
The purpose of the Masters of Science In Teaching,
(MST), Visual Arts – All Grades is to offer a unique graduate
experience that prepares teachers to meet the national, state and
regional need for excellent teachers of the visual arts.
The MST Visual Arts – All
Grades is a program designed to prepare teachers to be accomplished
art educators and advocates for art and learning in all grades. Our
goal is to prepare students in becoming outstanding professionals
with the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of all their students.
The program is committed to educating potential teachers whose practice
will be characterized by thoughtful action rooted in research (with
an emphasis in action research) and whose preparation will equip
them to become leaders, as well as advocates for the arts, in the
field of art education. The
relationship between faculty and students in the program is one of
partnership in teaching and learning. Partnerships with areas school
districts, the greater Rochester community and the local art community
are key elements in the design of our curriculum. The
program addresses the fundamental purposes and processes of education
as well as the impact of social, economic, and cultural changes upon
education and art. The program provides a variety of perspectives
on the education of the visual arts. It prepares teachers who
are dedicated to a pedagogy of engagement.
