Dr. Joseph is a software consultant. He consults in areas where success requires broad and extensive knowledge of business processes and/or information technology, a wide array of applied computer technology skills, and extensive knowledge of, and work or teaching experience with, SAP R/3, UML, information requirements analysis & design, and information technology in general.
As a student he earned a B.S. in Commerce, a Masters' degree in Economics, an M.B.A. degree, and a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems with minors in Computer Science and Organizational Behavior. Work for the latter two degrees was focused on the development, implementation, and use of computer-based systems designed to help managers plan and direct business processes as well as computer architecture, operating systems, the design and use of computer languages, computer system implementation, and change management. His educational, consulting, and other professional experience form the basis of his expertise in the analysis of business processes and application of Information Technology to them to gain competitive advantage or improve operations.
Beyond his University coursework, Dr. Joseph has completed more than 1000 hours of additional training, including over 64 days of coursework offered by SAP America and the SAP University Alliance in ABAP Programming, SAP R/3 Configuration, and various SAP R/3 modules, methodologies, and technologies. He is an SAP-certified Accelerated SAP (ASAP) consultant (Certification Number S0001189554) and has also received formal training in other technical areas including, but not restricted to, networking technologies, software development process improvement, software project estimation and measurement, systems and program complexity analysis, and Total Quality Management.
Before embarking on a full-time consulting career, Dr. Joseph developed, implemented, and maintained the undergraduate MIS major, 5 advanced certificate programs in MIS, and MIS MBA concentrations at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The MIS major focused on the design of business computing systems. He taught in that major for nearly 25 years as a tenured Associate Professor of Management Information Systems. As part of that effort, he designed and implemented the software and hardware configurations of several general business/MIS computing laboratories at RIT and supervised the installation of an SAP R/3 system in support of ERP Configuration courses. In addition, he founded the Central/Western New York/Pennsylvania chapter of the Americas SAP Users Group (ASUG) in 1999 and chapter meetings have been held on a quarterly basis on the RIT Campus ever since. Thousands of users who work for about 20 firms that use SAP products belong to the chapter. He has been a member of the chapter’s Board of Directors since 1999. He presently provides curriculum development advice relating to RIT's MIS program.
Specific undergraduate and graduate courses that Dr. Joseph has taught include ERP implementation using SAP R/3 as an example; process design and configuration using SAP R/3; Object-Oriented and Procedural Systems Analysis & Design; Information Systems Project Management with MS Project; Business Process and Workflow Design using SAP R/3 and IBM WebSphere Business Modeler; Database Management, including Data Modeling & SQL; Data Structures; Networking Technologies; MIS Hardware & Operating System Architectures; Software Metrics & Testing; Decision Support & Expert Systems; MIS Theory & Concepts; Information Systems Management; and fundamental and advanced courses in the BASIC, COBOL, Pascal, & FORTRAN languages. He has also taught courses in Money & Banking; Macroeconomics; Microeconomics; Consumer Economics; and Business Strategy.
Dr. Joseph's non-academic full-time work experience includes a variety of positions requiring combinations of knowledge and expertise in Systems Analysis, Team Management, Programming, Computer & Networking Technologies, IT Project Estimation, Business Administration, Strategic Planning, and Economics. It includes work that has focused on SAP R/3 v. 7.0 variant configuration, the application of computer technologies in support of business and manufacturing processes, process improvement, database migration, web site development, and programming. He has also worked as a full-time systems development team leader, systems analyst, and programmer in the banking and insurance industries in Buffalo, NY, and he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Business Administration and Business Computing programs at several area colleges there as well.
In addition, Dr. Joseph has provided expert witness testimony. In 2007-08 he testified in a case that required estimation of the cost of replacing a fully-integrated instance of SAP R/3 Enterprise Core (version 4.7) at a furniture manufacturing company with all modules and the Customer Relationship Management system installed. Between 1997 and 2001, he provided written evaluations of the work experience and educational backgrounds of applicants applying to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service for H1-B Visa Status (temporary work permits). This work, done for a legal firm representing these applicants, included assessment of their professional fitness for work in jobs involving computer programming, systems analysis, database and system administration, and software project management and other areas requiring skills in computing and networking technologies.
His published work includes articles and presentations focused on the development of computer-based business systems and ERP implementation success as well as several commercial software applications. A more detailed listing of his work experience, training, and publications as well as contact information can be found on both his resume and his curriculum vitae.
