If not on the campus network then you must first establish a VPN connection; then the Remote Desktop Connection.

To run the Microelectronic Engineering applications on the server—run a Remote Desktop Connection.

 

On Windows based systems:

a)   Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Communications>>Remote Desktop Connection

b)      Computer name is KGCOE-KIF.main.ad.rit.edu.

c)    Log on with your DCE username and password as MAIN\username.

 

On VLSI computers:

a)   Select Internet>>Krdc

b)      Then enter rdp:/KGCOE-KIF.main.ad.rit.edu

c)   Select screen preferences

d)      Log on with your DCE username and password as MAIN\username.

 

On Macintosh systems:

a) Go to the following address:

A RDC200_ALL.dmg file should be downloaded. This program is distributed for free by Microsoft to enable macintosh users to remotely connect to windows machines.
b) Locate the downloaded file and double-click on it. A virtual disk named "Remote Desktop Connection" should be mounted in a few seconds.
Open the mounted disk.
c) Double-click on "Remote Desktop Connection.mpkg" to install the Remote Desktop Connection software.
d) Click "Continue" twice and accept the Software License Terms.
e) Click "Install" and if prompted, type in the Administrator's User Name and Password. Installer should install the file with a minute or so. Click "Close".
f) Go to the "Applications" folder (Finder>>Go>>Applications).
g) Open "Remote Desktop Connection".
h) In the Computer field, type in "KGCOE-KIF.main.ad.rit.edu". Do not click Connect.
i) Click on RDC>>Preferences...
j) Click on Login (on the top left corner) and then type in your DCE Username and Password. Make sure that the Domain field is empty. You can check the two check boxes if desired.
k) Click on Security (on the top right corner) and choose the first option - "Always connect, even if authentication fails". If desired, you can choose your Display, Sound, etc. preferences. Close the window.
l) Click Connect. You should be automatically logged in and ready to go. When you are done, just log out. You might be prompted if you want to save your preferences. Click the check box next to "Don't prompt me again" and click Save.

Your desktop used while running kif is stored on \\kgcoe-file.main.ad.rit.edu\morbo-homes\username under your username.

 

To access \\kgcoe-file.main.ad.rit.edu\morbo-homes\username your computer must be on RIT network (download and run VPN Client from: http://www.rit.edu/its/services/vpn/ ) to establish the network connection if not on the campus network.

 

On Windows based systems:

a)      Start>>Run>> \\kgcoe-file.main.ad.rit.edu\morbo-homes\username

b)      Log on to main using your DCE username and password.

 

 On Macintosh systems:

a)      Click on Finder in the Dock.

b)      Click Go --> Connect to Server...

      c)      Type in "https://kgcoe-file.main.ad.rit.edu/morbo-homes/your_DCE_username"

d)      On the dialog box, click "Show Certificate"

e)      Click the check box next to "Always Trust this Certificate"

f)        If prompted, type in the administrative user ID and password.

g)      Log in with your DCE Username and Password. If desired, click the check box next to "Save this in my Keychain".

h)      That's it. The morbo server has now been configured. In the future, you just need to do steps 1-3 to access morbo.
