Want to spend the summer at a medical school?
Are you currently a sophomore or junior?
Are you a member of a minority that is underrepresented in medicine?
If YOU answered YES to the above questions, request an application form, essay form and Faculty Recommendation Form (see contact below) so you can participate in the Minority Student Summer Research Opportunity Program (MSSROP).
MSSROP will provide you with nine weeks of research experience in conducting biomedical research (click here to see some previous project topics). Students participating in the program will conduct research under the direction of a faculty member at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Research assignments will be made based upon availabiity of research opportunities and according to the mutural interests of the faculty sponsors and student participants.
In addition to research training, you will participate in a special seminar/lecture series. Our goal is to introduce students to the broad research environment of a major academic medical center as well as provide you with training in a specific field of biomedical investigation.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact not only with the faculty member directing the research, but also with the graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows working at the site. Frequent meetings with other program participants along with one or more of the faculty sponsors will be scheduled as well as weekly seminars, workshops and lectures.
At the end of the 9 week period, each student will present her or his work to other students and the faculty sponsors. Each student will also be expected to write a report concerning the research work conducted and its relation to other work in progress at her or his site.
Participants will be invited to all Graduate School functions. A picnic, barbecue and special social events will be scheduled specifically for participants. Smaller group social interactions will occur within research laboratories and with other program participants. The Office of Minority Student Affairs will serve as a Student Affairs Office.
