All of the Organizations listed below that have already updated their sites for 2009, or offer opportunities on an annual basis will be indicated by a (2009) after the co-op link
This website lists opportunities from the larger Biology & Biotechnology Co-op Opportunities on the Web offered by universities and university-based research organizations. These types of co-ops are especially useful for students who want to explore research careers and/or graduate school. The pay for most of these positions (~$2,500-$3,000 for 9-12 weeks) is usually less than that offered by private companies. However, most of these university research programs fully pay (or subsidize) room & board (usually in dormitories) and pay the full (or partial) costs of your transportation to and from the university.
If you would like to experience research in more depth or for a longer time period than the typical internship, you might be interested in one or more of the following opportunities:
National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD (and other locations) Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award - Year-long program for recent college graduates who plan to apply to graduate or professional school.
National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD (and other locations) Technical Intramural Research Training Award - Year-long program for individuals with a bachelor's degree who aspire to careers as research support professional
Plum Island Animal Disease Center, Greenport, NY Research Participation Program - "Initial appointments are for 12 months but could be renewed on a yearly basis contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds."
In addition to the valuable experience and good pay that a Co-op or Internship will give you, very many of the Opportunities listed on this website also provide Travel Reimbursement, Housing and Meals. So, don't let concerns about living expenses or the location of an organization posted on this website prevent you from checking out an exciting and challenging Co-op or Internship position!! If travel support, housing and meals are provided, this information will almost always be included in the details about the Co-op or Internship that can be found by clicking on the co-op website next to the organization's name and location.
Do
you want to Co-op/Intern anytime soon?
1. You'll need to get your resume up to date.
2.
RIT Students - You may also want to consider taking
the optional "Introduction
to Co-op Seminar" course.
3. Students from
other colleges and universities - You are
certainly welcome to use
the Co-op course
links even
if you are not an RIT Student
