Dear Dr. Frederick,
My name is Mike White and I took some courses at RIT quite a while ago. I have been in touch with Renee Sitnik and decided I should contact you myself as well.
I am the Transgenic Core supervisor for the Pathology dept. out here at Wash U. I have been here for about 7 years and in the embryo manipulation field for about 11 yrs. I have established the departmental core facility and operate it as the premier facility here at Wash U.
At the moment there is one other part-time person who assists me with animal care. As the departmental needs have increased and the possibility of opening our service to the other departments is on the verge of happening I am looking for a technician to assist in the microinjection effort.
I am looking for a motivated individual who has at least been exposed to the idea of microinjection (employer willing to train employee in this technique), perhaps some tissue culture experience, understands some molecular biology and genetics; the ability to handle mice is a big plus.
Responsibilities would include: Preparation and administration of hormones to the mice. Preparation of various reagents required for microinjection. Learning to perform pronuclear microinjection in a variety of inbred strains of mice. Learning E.S.cell (Blastocyst) microinjection and RAG complementation. Learning cryopreservation and embryo rederivation.
After these skills have been established there may be the opportunity to follow some of the novel mice generated utilizing northern, southern, western blots, PCR and RT PCR as well as various bio assays depending on how the individual shapes the position.
I am going to be working on importing new technology specifically nuclear transfer and as these techniques become productive they will be added to the repertoire of embryo manipulations.
This Core facility is up and running and is the most productive here at Wash U. We need an individual who is ready to embark on an exciting career opportunity. Interested candidates can do a Lit. search for J.Michael White or Mike White to get an idea of some of the studies we have done here. They should find papers in all the major journals, a couple Cell, Science, Nature, Immunity, JBC, J exp. med.
Interested candidates can contact me at my email address (white@pathbox.wustl.edu)
Sincerely,
Mike White
