Main points with transition sentences in paragraphs

Discuss Topic sentences and Transition words for main points with examples from class topics or use  Example Outline for Pollock, part 4.

Step 1.  Topic and Main Points -- Look at the main points (A, B). You must understand how these main points are connected (are similar)

For example: 
    A.  Life Magazine article about Pollock's art
    B.  Radio interview about Pollock's art
    C.  Movie about Pollock's art
 
Both of these are publicity. (or) media (or) advertising.

You know how to do this -- look at these examples:

    A. dogs
    B. cats
Both of these are
______________?

     A. pizza
    B. hamburgers
Both of these are
______________?

Step 2: Add transition words to show each main point (A, B, etc.).

Use words like:   first, at the start, one thing in your sentence for main point A.

Use words like:   second, next, afterwards, later, another thing in your sentence for main point B.

 

Study these examples.

Example:

I. (topic) publicity   
   A. (first main point) Life Magazine
   B. (second main point) movie

Study the topic sentence and the transition sentences for the first and second main points.

     Publicitiy helps Jackson become successful. First Jackson got good publicity in a Life magazine article. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... Later, Jackosn got good publicity in a movie about his work. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... (put summary [conclusion] sentence here).

Example:

I. (topic) support from people   
   A. (first main point) Lee
   B. (second main point) Clem

Study the topic sentence and the transition sentences for the first and second main points.

    Support from two people helped Jackson become successful. One person who gave Jackson a lot of support was Lee. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... Another person who gave Jackson support was Clem. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... (put summary [conclusion] sentence here).

Example:

I. (topic) behavior changes   
   A. (first main point) drinking
   B. (second main point) self-confidence

Study the topic sentence and the transition sentences for the first and second main points.

    Jackson changes his behavior and is more successful. At the start of part 4, Jackson Pollock's drinking behavior began to change. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... Later in part 4, Jackson had more confidence. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... (put summary [conclusion] sentence here).

Example:

I. (topic) painting   
   A. (first main point) skill improve
   B. (second main point) work hard
   C. (third main point) show in gallery

Study the topic sentence and the transition sentences for the first and second main points.

    Jackson has success as a painter for several reasons. The first reason is his skills improved. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... The second reason is he worked harder. ..... (add details and examples here) ..... The third reason is he had his own show in a gallery. ..... (add details and examples here) .....(put summary [conclusion] sentence here).
