Grandma & Grandpa Wheeler's 50th Wedding Anniversary

A THUMBNAIL SKETCH

I feel very strongly about my family. I have been blessed with being a part of an exceptional family. I will limit the family tree to the immediate generations. Some diligent members of the family tree have evidence of a connection to Mary Queen of Scots. I'm not sure about that but I dohave materials following my Mom's heritage to pre-revolution (we are even D.A.R./S.A.R. Eligible) but for now let's keep to the immediate family. My Dad's family is Welsh and Irish. Grampa Davis and Grandma Rose Carson Davis had four boys: Jimmy, Harold, Paul and Baby John. They had a dairy farm in West Windfield, but the cows all got Hoof and Mouth disease and the government came and shot them. They managed to continue to farm een after all that.

My Mom's family is English. Stuart Wheeler who ran the bank from his house and Ida Wilcox Wheeler had four kids too!: Herbert, Dorothy, Ruth and Ellen. They were among the richest families in town - owners of the first car and indoor plumbing. There are some facinating memoirs about a swindler and phoney stocks and such, but I'll leave that for another time.

They all lived in West Windfield, New York. A little over an hour's drive from where I live now.

Ruth and Paul met in High School while double dating with other people (He a football player, she a speedy little basketball player)- by the end of the evening they had managed to get together and they stayed that way until they died. The story of their life together is a magical love story.

Ruth was a Registered Nurse and Paul was the Division Manager of Crowley's Milk Company. They became Episcopal solving the Catholic or Protestant issue their backgrounds presented. They moved around a bit living in Cornwall New York, Binghamton New York and ending up in New Windsor New York (where I grew up). My Dad died when I was eleven and my Mom (Mubsie) and I had a very special relationship.

I am one of six children:

Duane Paul Davis is an athlete. He was a success in the minor leagues of baseball and later became a High School Coach and Business teacher. He is now retired but still Coaching Mount Saint Mary's College Basketball. He married Carol Singleton and they had four children: Karen, Diane, Jennifer and Paul. Karen married Art Borin and they have two children: Timothy and Katherine. Diane is engaged to be married on November 10 (I was excited about the news and forgot to ask his name!), Jennifer and Mike live in Boston and Paul (PJ)....Hmmm I don't know where PJ is right now.

Lance Wheeler Davis is a Restaurateur (pronounce this with a French accent). He has managed restaurants across the country and Internationally and presently runs Trucks Stops of America (TA) in San Antonio Texas. He is married to Sylvia.

Janet Ellen Davis is a musician and Administrative Assistant. For many years she ran her own music school in Hillsborough New Jersey, teaching piano. She now works at the University of North Carolina in the Athletic Department. She has three children: Nicholas - a screenwriter living in LA, Carlyn - graduate of Franklin Pierce College and working at UNC and Lance presently attending College.

Rande Stuart. Davis is a Publishing Consultant. He runs his own publication distribution Consulting Firm in Fredrick MD (RSD Consultants) handling marketing and distribution for many national publications. He married Laura Terlok-Poot who is a School Nurse. They have three children: Sean Paul, Mieke, and Juliana Ruth. Sean Paul is married to Cameille and they have a baby girl.

Then there's me. There is a 15 year space between me and Rande, a child named Blane was stillborn and I came soon after. I was shamelessly spoiled by all!
