Basic Hydraulic Circuits
Objectives
- To learn how to interpret hydraulic system diagrams
- Construct a double acting hydraulic cylinder.
- Construct a regenerative circuit.
- Construct a hydraulic cylinder sequencing circuit.
- Compare the performance of parallel and series cylinders
Background reading and reference
Read text Chapter 9.
Read handout material attached to this lab entitled "Hydraulic Circuits"
.
Procedure
Set up components as directed by the laboratory instructor using the associated figures
from the text as a guide. Observe the operation of the circuits. The following circuits
are to be demonstrated to the instructor:
- a double acting hydraulic cylinder per Figure 9-3, p. 356
- a regenerative circuit per Figure 9-4 p 357
- a hydraulic cylinder sequencing circuit per Figure 13.1 in lab handout
- Cylinders hooked in parallel vs. cylinders hooked in series per Figures 9-14 and 9-15
(pp 366-367)
Report
Your report should have the following elements for each of the logic gates:
- Schematic diagram using ANSI graphic symbols for fluid power circuits (Fig. 9-1).
- Verbal description of operation and performance
- Description of an application of the device.
One page per circuit should be sufficient.
Cautions
- Wipe up oil spills immediately or cover with kitty litter (in coffee can) or wipes.
