Content requirements
Sufficient and required content is available for the site to be designed. The amount of content is not the problem, but the arrangement and chunking of content is not proper on existing site. thus it is necessary to classify and chunk the available data. To have easy access to content and easy navigation on site the content can be divided into following groups.
- Home: This tab will consist of Course Description, Prerequisite Courses, Prerequisite skills and Instructor Information.
- Syllabus: This tab will consist of Course Objectives, Text and Materials, academic dishonesty, grading policies, enrollment and topics covered.
- Projects:This tab will consist of Project explanation and grading.
- Outline: This tab will have all the weekly updates.
These groups will give explanation about course information, syllabus information, project information and weekly schedule.
The content is divided into above groups by keeping in mind current students, past students and prospective students. The content division will help to give easy access to past students, current students and prospective students.
Also we are planning to give local navigation on each page which will help audiences to give an outline of content available on particular page.
Functional Requirements
Home: It will contain information of course, instructor contact information and prerequisite requirements. Reason behind this is, if a prospective student will enter the site, he/she should be able to get to basic information such as prerequisite courses information and the description of courses. If required, prospective student can access this information for deciding to take the course
Syllabus This section is specially designed for current students. Students gets information about course objectives, text books, material required for course and topics covered. Also, as a student of RIT, he/she should be able to get information about grading policies and information about academic dishonesty policies of RIT. This section will also be helpful for prospective students. In the old design of the site, data is not chunked together properly, which is the most functional requirement of the site.
Projects This section gives all the details about the projects which are to be made during the course. This section will be useful to current students and prospective students. Project details will include Number of projects to be made, requirements of the project, grading rubrics of the projects and due dates of the project.
Outline: This section will be present on Home page at the left hand corner. Providing this information on Home page will help current and prospective students to access weekly information such as Weekly readings and topics. Current students might not be interested in other information like syllabus, prerequisite information every time they enter the site. So that they can have direct access to weekly updates.
