Schedule of Experiments and
Projects
This is the lab experiment procedures and schedule page.
Safety and conduct
- Safety: Note that laboratory's contain
safety hazards. Hydraulic and pneumatic systems are capable of generating
very large forces that may injure fingers, etc. Always be certain that people
are clear of moving parts before operating circuits or other apparatus. If
you are uncertain about the operation of equipment, ask the instructor before
proceeding. Safety glasses must be worn while working with hydraulic and pneumatic
equipment. Note: voltages used in elecropneumatic experiments are 24 volts
DC. In case of fire, leave the area immediatly-do not return to pick up your
belongings. Report all injuries to the instructor.
- Proper footwear must be worn during the labs.
This means no open toe shoes, high heels, flip-flops or sandals will be permitted.
This is for your safety.
- Safety glasses-You must wear
safety glasses while working at the pneumatics trainers. Tubes
flying off can injure you eyes. Some have complained about the ones we provide.
If you don't like the ones we provide, you can buy a pair of goggles for your
personal use at the RIT book store, Sears, Home Depot or where ever.
- LAB MANUALS:
You must purchase your own lab manual for the lab. These are available in
the MET department office for $5.00. Persons without manuals will be turned
away in the future. Every person needs their own lab manual. This is an important
part of the learning in the lab. The lab manual should be filed in your 3-ring
loose leaf binder along with a supply of green engineering quad ruled notebook
sheets. YOUR INDIVIDUAL LAB NOTBOOK WILL BE GRADED AT THE END OF THE
QUARTER SO KEEP IT UP TO DATE, ORDERLY AND COMPLETE.
- Rewriting labs-Some may ask about doing
labs over to raise grades. The lab instructors have decided
that this will not be an option. Read over the comments your instructor makes
on the graded reports and discuss them with your instructor. We don't want
students spending a lot of time going over old reports. Time needs to be devoted
to current material and current reports and home works. You may bring reports
prior to handing them in to any of the lab instructors for a quick review.
Also do not miss the opportunity to take your reports to the Writing Lab in
building 1 for a review. In some instances, the instructor may require poorly
done labs to be re-written and edited. There is a 10-point penalty assessed
for these labs. Remember WRITING is the NUMBER ONE THING YOU NEED
TO LEARN IN COLLEGE.
- Housekeeping- Please return all wires and pneumatic tubes
to the plastic bags provided before you leave. Return safety glasses to the
safety glass holder. Use appropriate recycle bins or trash bins for discarded
material.
- Food and Drinks- are not permitted in the lab.
- NOTE-Your instructor must approve your notebook (check,
correct, initial and date) prior to your leaving the lab area.
Lab Report and Their Format. You
must use the lab report format
that is to be adhered to when submitting reports for hydraulics and pneumatics
labs. You can view an example of a professional report by clicking
here. This example is for page layout and display of figures and tables
only.

Grades:
Each lab report will be graded. Lab reports are due at the beginning of the
next lab session. Late labs will be assessed a penalty of 10 points per week
late. In addition to the lab report, the lab notebook will be submitted for
grading at the end of the quarter. The instructor will also make an assessment
(grade) for your participation in and preparation for lab activities. You are
expected to be in the lab and ready to start work at the appointed time.
Makeup labs. If you missed a lab for illness,
contact the instructor to arrange to make up the lab.
