Information
The RIT Summer Reading Orchestra examines some of the most important and interesting works of the orchestral repertoire by reading through them and by brief discussions of their social, historical and artistic contexts. Aspects of performance practices are particularly addressed, so participants can gain a better understanding of various performing styles. On occasion, the RIT Summer Reading Orchestra joins the Eastman-Rochester Summer Sings to play through major orchestral/vocal works. Anyone who plays an orchestral instrument and would like to familiarize themselves with repertoire and styles is welcome to join us. We also welcome musicians and non-musicians who would like to just sit and listen to the works and discussion.
In honor of the 200th anniversary year of the death of Joseph Haydn and the birth of Felix Mendelssohn, this summer we will focus on the works of these two great composers. Activities will include two joint sessions with the Eastman-Rochester Summer Sings, in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music.

Directions
The RIT sessions are held in the Music Rehearsal Room in the basement of the Student-Alumni Union (SAU) on the RIT campus. It is easiest to park in Lot U, which is on the south side of the campus, between the lacrosse field and the tennis courts. The SAU is the building immediately to the north of Lot U. Enter the door to the right of the south side of the building, nearest the tennis courts. Go straight through to the second hallway and turn left. When you get to the end of the hall (you'll see stairs, vending machines and the RIT Zone) turn right, towards the radio station. The Music Rehearsal Room will be near the end of that hallway, on your left.Contact Information and Registration
