James Cooper's Photography of Shinedown
Working as a professional photographer based in NYC, James has gained the reputation of continually capturing a moment in time. His sets have an air of being a relaxing, fun experience. Going on 20 years now, he has worked for such clients as Atlantic Records, Sports Illustrated, Associated Press, Shinedown, HBO, Fuse Network, Universal Classical Records, Shape En Espanol, Vanity Fair Lingerie, Meinl Cymbals, Def Jam Records, Trans Siberian Orchestra, Guitar World Magazine, Jazz Times, Revolver Magazine, Trans Continental Records, The LA Times, The New York Times, Motown Records, Universal Records, The NFL, Latina Magazine, Vanity Fair, Jobson Publishing, Warner Brother Records, German Max, Tracks Magazine, Mojo, Australian Cosmo and countless others.
James' career started in his early 20's when his father, a retired detective, gave him one of his old surveillance cameras to begin capturing sporting events for a local newspaper. This quickly led to work for many publications and eventually winning the NFL Hall of Fame photo contest in 1990 and 1991. His 1990 winner of Giants receiver Mark Ingram is on permanent exhibit at the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio. It also graced the cover of the DK published book “Best Shot, The Greatest NFL Photography on the Century”. After years of shooting action, James began to make portraits of athletes, which turned into portraits of musicians and actors for various publications. Fashion work followed. James has shot countless album and magazine covers over the years.
The work that he did for Atlantic Records rock band Shinedown earned James a Platinum Record from the band. The work put in touring with Shinedown turned into the cover and an inside gallery on the bands DVD.
