the AMYA - American Model Yachting Assn.

About Us

The Rochester Area Model Yachting Association was formed in the summer of 1994 to enjoy and promote the hobby of sailing model radio controlled sailboats in the Rochester, NY area. Our organization is primarily interested in model sailing craft. RAMYA is associated with the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA club #193) and promotes attendance at AMYA sanctioned regattas in and around the northeast. In 2003 we will finally realized our dream of hosting a major regatta. The AC (America's Cup Class) Region 1 and National Championship Regattas where held here in August and September of that year. We hosted the AC Region 1 regatta again in 2004. We presently sail and race the Soling One Meter class as well as the America's Cup and Victoria classes. Other boats are being evaluated.  Members range in ability level. While some are from a sailing background, most come from an R/C background although you don't have to have experience in either to participate. Club dues are $20 a year. Racing occurs once a week for each of the three classes and the day is decided at the Spring Meeting. Activity usually commences at 6pm and each race runs about ten minutes. Depending on the wind conditions, between five and twelve races are typically run a night. At the end of the season, awards are handed out based on the results. If you are interested, e-mail me or stop by the pond, introduce yourself and one of the members will gladly show you to the wonderful world of R/C sailing.

Sincerely,
John Yost
