Although fanboys bash Sony's Playstation 3 for not having any good titles,
there are some very good games available for the Sony Playstation 3.
Perhaps the best game available for Sony's Playstation 3 is Resistance:
Fall of Man,
which is a first person shooter. It was created by Insomniac
Games and Sony Computer Entertainment America, the makers of two award-winning
shooter series, Ratchet and Clank and S.O.C.O.M.: US Navy Seals. One known for
it's complex and creative weapons, the other known for its realistic and very
addictive style of play. Resistance has a creative background story driving
its single player and cooperative multiplayer campaigns, ...the U.S. And
Britain band together in a lest-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from
a horrific scourge. In mere decades, the Chimera a species of unknown
origin propagating a virus that converts other life forms into more
Chimera has overrun Russia and all of Europe. Humanity's hope for survival
is slim, and the tide of the battle rests on the shoulders of U.S. Army Ranger,
Sgt. Nathan Hale
(SCEA, 2006). It combines creative storyline and game play with
fast paced shooting and dodging and keeps players coming back from more.
From past experiences, the online adds to the greatness that is Resistance:
Fall of Man with its capability of having up to forty players at one time
playing with absolutely no lag, and there are always people playing online.
Also, unlike in some other games, it supports worldwide play, so users can
play people in Japan when everyone else in America is fast asleep. Some critics have
even come to say that Resistance: Fall of Man rivals the game play of the Halo series
on Microsoft's Xbox and Xbox 360, which has one awards for game of the year twice
and has been hailed one of the best first person shooters ever created. Some critics
have even gone as for as saying that Resistance: Fall of Man is what kept Sony's
Playstation 3 from being a failure at launch.
Another example of a great exclusive title for the Sony Playstation 3 is, Heavenly
Sword, an action packed hack and slash game where the main character is a female,
instead of the usual male. It was created by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
and Ninja Theory Ltd. Heavenly Sword is a tale of revenge, courage and self-discovery.
For as long as the clan can remember, the prophecies have told of a son, born of
their leader, who will lead them to their rightful place in heaven. So when the
leader of the clan is born a daughter, Nariko, it seems as though the prophecy shall
pass, unfulfilled
(SCEE, 2006). Heavenly Sword is much like its Playstation 2 counterpart
made by Sony Computer Entertainment America, God of War. Both titles play alike but have
very different story lines, although both titles have revenge driving the main story.
But, in Heavenly Sword, comes a different fighting style where the weapon of the main
character can change into three different types of weapons, and since the combat engine
was made for the Playstation 3, it uses physics-style fighting, which means no more of
the same death scenes repeated over as the game uses physics to display what goes on on the field.
Heavenly sword also sports Creative in-game Cinematography, which feels like a blockbuster
action movie that takes combat game play to new heights
(SCEE, 2006).
