About The Teacher


Peter Haggerty has taught reading and writing at NTID for more than 25 years. He has also taught for 10 years in RIT's College of Liberal Arts. Prior to joining RIT, he was a newspaper reporter in Princeton, NJ and Medina, NY. Haggerty received his BA from Wesleyan University in CN and his MA in English Literature from Rutgers University. While in school, he supported himself by working as a fork-lift operator, a security guard, a human subjects volunteer, a UPS package loader and a parking lot attendant. He lived in the Sol Heumann Residence Hall on the RIT campus from 1996 to 1998 as the Faculty in Residence. His daughter, Tabitha, graduated from RIT in 1991 with a degree in Film/Video Technology. He is a Certified Personal Trainer and has competed in road races, two marathons, biathlons, triathlons and stairclimbs. He dreams about qualifying for the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon. Among his everyday pleasures are running, working on his Macintosh computer, and watching some TV. He also loves answering e-mail and being involved with student clubs and organizations.
