About Vertebrate Evolution

Goals of the course:
To provide a basic understanding of patterns of vertebrate evolution and demonstrate the ample evidence for evolution by analyzing the fossils that mark the transition between each of the major vertebrate classes. To interpret evolutionary relationships through the use of cladistic analysis.

Course description:
Study of the major changes in vertebrate functional morphology through time, beginning with fish and ending with humans; fossil evidence depicting major transitions between the vertebrate classes; modern taxonomy, including cladistic analysis, geologic time and stratigraphy; and plate tectonics. 4 Credits (W)
