Statement of professional research focus:
My professional research focus remains on the history of graphic design, namely the study of the historical emergence of Modernism in Graphic Design in America between 1930 to 1950. I am interested in continuing the development of a body of information about the pioneering people, processes and products of this period. This work manifests itself in developing unique archival resources, writing books, articles and reviews, extending existing courses, lecturing and focusing this information into new course opportunities. Relative to developing new history of design courses, I am particularly interested in new pedagogical explorations (such as online learning and how teaching and learning may be enhanced through new technology), emerging educational approaches toward establishing courses based on Constructivist theory and other relevant theories which inform design and education and, in general, the enhancement creation of a content-rich learning environment for my students.
