Dorin Patru

Dr. Patru is teaching and pursuing research and development in the area of digital and computer systems.

Biography

Dr. Patru was born on May 21 1968 in Sibiu, Romania. Between 1983 and 1987 he studied at "The Brukenthal Lyceum", a German High School with special emphasis on Mathematics and Physics, Sibiu, Romania. In June 1987 he graduated with a Degree of Baccalaureate in Mathematics, Physics, Romanian and German Language and Culture. His Senior Design Project title was: “Oscilloscope based discrete semiconductor devices characterization equipment” - Academic Advisor: Prof. Hans Birk. In July 1987 he was admitted for undergraduate studies at "The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca", Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He commenced his undergraduate studies in September 1988, after a one year mandatory service. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with the thesis entitled “Hardware Design and Implementation of a PC-based Emulator for the Intel MCS-51 Family of Micro-controllers”. - Academic Advisor: Prof. Mircea Dabacan. After working in the industry and academia, in August 1997 he was admitted for graduate studies in the "School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science", Washington State University, Pullman, WA. He graduated in May 2002 with a PhD in Electrical Engineering, with the thesis: "Application specific performance enhancements of digital and mixed-signal CMOS circuits using opto-electronic circuit techniques” - Academic Advisor: Prof. Scott Hudson. He has been a faculty member in the Electrical Engineering Department, at the Rochester Institute of Technology since July 2002.
